Chapter 21
âWelcome to my home,â Rex said as the guys piled into the living room after Rex had given them a tour of the space. Theyâd just returned from viewing the land they were interested in, and since itâd been much more than theyâd expectedâwith existing permits for a horse breeding operation, very fertile land with lots of hay and alfalfa, and more than enough acreage to build out the operation as they desiredâtheyâd made an offer on the spot.
The view of the land with its rolling hills had almost been as good as that of Dexin ranch, and it was a miracle that the place had been up for saleâthe owners of the property had passed on, and their kids, who had moved to another state, werenât interested in returning. And though the ranch needed much work to make it more habitable, with several old buildings that had to be torn down, it had good bones and was well worth it. Rex could already see the horses running through the land in his mind. Now all they had to do was wait to hear back.
âAh, I could live here,â Cole said as he collapsed on the larger couch and put his feet up.
âThis is really nice,â Weston said, settling into a loveseat. âAnd your brothers built it? They must love you very much.â
âYes, heâs one lucky man,â Cole said. âI canât see you or Liam doing the same for me.â Liam hurled a throw pillow at his head from where he sat on a smaller couch, and Cole managed to dodge it. âHey, what was that for?â
âWe might just decide to exclude you from the new ranch if you keep running your mouth,â Liam said.
âYou canât do that,â Cole said with a smirk as he settled back into the couch. âRex wonât let you.â
âSo speaking of family,â Weston said, âhave you told them about Tammy?â
Rex sat on a couch arm. âNot yet.â
âI know you, Rex,â Liam said. âYou wonât be at peace until you do.â
Rex ran a hand through his hair. âI know. Iâll probably talk to them soon.â
But how was he going to bring it up? And what if Max and his family got mad at him when they heard the details?
Still, he owed it to Tammy to tell them the truth.
Rex didnât have to think about that right now. âSo are you guys staying for lunch?â he asked instead.
âI wish we could, but Grandma wants us back in Boston,â Liam said. âSheâs keeping us on a tight leash now weâre on the east coast. For now, weâre going with the flow just to make her happy until we purchase the land.â
âHopefully theyâll accept our offer, and we can proceed from there,â Weston said. âThough weâll keep scouting for other real estate just in case this one falls through.â
Then Cole straightened, reached out for something heâd caught sight of on the floor, and picked it up.
Rex grimaced. It was his old copy of Oliver Twist. It was as
