I put some coffee on as the boys settled in. I handed Marco Dan’s phone, watching him retreat into the living room to watch Dan’s little porn masterpiece. Dan followed me into the kitchen.

“You gonna be okay with this? I don’t want you to get all weirded out. It’s just our bodies, Els.”

“Yeah, I get it. I mean, it’s not like we haven’t seen the junk before, right?”

“Yeah, and I have. Seen your junk, I mean. Though you and Marco whip through there so fucking fast. Like you gotta get away real quick like…and okay, I’m a fucking idiot for never putting that one together: nooners.” He winked an eye and put a finger to his temple. Someone came home to that lit-up house they’re always talking about.

“Wait, you’re in my PE class?”

“Marco’s too, though I guess why I never rated even so much as a glance my way when you’ve got tall, dark, and gorgeous following you around, huh?”

I smiled. “Yeah, he’s aces in my book.”

“Ah, come on, he’s a helluva lot more than that. I can see it. You are both so in love, you don’t even see anyone else, do you?”

I blushed so deeply when he said that.

“Yeah, he’s my world. I tell him he’s mine and I mean it, but fuck me why he’s so into me? I’ve never understood it.”

“Well, it’s not for you, is it?”

“That’s what he says,” I sighed thoughtfully.

“Don’t try to figure it out with this.” He tapped the side of my head. “It’s meant to be felt with this.” I knew where he was going with it, but something still stirred inside when he touched upon it. “It’s a beautiful thing, Els. Try not to hide it too much. It’ll worry him. I made that mistake once; look what it got me.”

“Is that why he left you?”

“No, nothing like that. But I loved him so much I was afraid to tell him all the time. I didn’t want to smother him. Didn’t matter really in the end, but I know I’d take him back in a second if he asked. No hesitation.”

“He cheat on you? Is that why?”

“No. Definitely not that. It’s a distance thing. Let’s leave it at that, ’kay?”

I nodded.

“At least for now. Maybe someday I’ll tell you both all about it. It’s just too raw right now.”

“Hey, we’re gonna be friends for life, right?”

“Fuck yeah, if I’ve got anything to say about it. And believe me, I’ve got plenty to say.”

He was standing in front of me as I leaned against the counter. He had his thumbs tucked into the front belt-loops of his jeans. The way it tugged down on his hips, he was flashing a small part of his lower abdomen I couldn’t help but spy. He so had the body I wanted for myself. I reached out and pulled him to me. Without hesitation he gave me a quick chaste kiss on the lips before he fell into a warm hug.

“It hurts sometimes, you know.”
