Like Queen, BTS couldn’t escape “what bands do.” Going back a little in time, to between the release of the album YOU NEVER WALK ALONE in February 2017 and LOVE YOURSELF 承 ‘Her’ in September of the same year, BTS had performed thirty-two concerts across ten different countries and regions as part of the 2017 BTS LIVE TRILOGY EPISODE III: THE WINGS TOUR.

Then, less than one month after the release of LOVE YOURSELF 承 ‘Her,’ BTS performed their remaining five concerts in Japan, Taiwan, and Macau. The show in Japan’s Kyocera Dome Osaka was their first dome performance since debuting.

Though this will be covered later on, around two weeks later, on November 19 (local time), BTS became the first Korean artists to give a solo performance at the American Music Awards (AMAs)c, one of the US’ biggest three music awards. The awards were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, where BTS also performed. They then made back-to-back appearances on the leading talk show of America’s “Big Three” television networks, NBC, CBS, and ABC.37, d, e

After returning to Korea, BTS prepared for performances at various award ceremonies, including the MAMA Awards and the MMAs. They also held three concerts as part of the 2017 BTS LIVE TRILOGY EPISODE III: THE WINGS TOUR, that would draw to a close the voyage of their previous world tour. They rang in the new year of 2018 having made it through all the preparations and appointments for each Korean broadcaster’s end of year special music programs and award ceremonies, and immediately had to get to work on their new album, LOVE YOURSELF 轉 ‘Tear.’

When asked how he felt at the time, Jin raises his voice slightly and explains the pressure and exhaustion they were experiencing:

________We really had almost no days off. So, at the time, I wondered whether it was right for a person to live life as exhausted as this.

Album production and promotion, and then tours, countless awards ceremonies and performances, producing yet another album … Just as it had been for Queen in Bohemian Rhapsody, this repeated schedule was exerting more and more of a psychological toll on the BTS members. To be precise, however, BTS were experiencing a pain different from that expressed by Queen in the movie. This was because BTS were in a situation that no British rock band or Korean idol group had ever been in before.

As mentioned earlier, Korean idol groups had been gaining popularity in the western music market even before BTS. K-pop music videos were already popular on YouTube. However, being invited to the BBMAs and winning, or making the top ten on the Billboard 200 with a Korean-language album: these were achievements on a whole new level. BTS were already unmatched in popularity within the Asian market and were also experiencing soaring popularity in the West, including in the US.

While on tour, Jin would take his PC into the accommodations and play games. He says:

______With games, it doesn’t feel like I’m gaming but that I’m doing it to chat.
