Ican’t believe the day is finally here. Everyone is lit up with excitement. Mum has been awake since early this morning, and Nat said social media is abuzz with the game ahead of us today. Jason drives us to the arena to show me around and I’m excited to show off some of my knowledge. I've decided to learn about hockey a bit more so I can impress him a little. We arrive in through the foyer where the players come through and it feels surreal, like I am backstage at a major concert. There’s staff milling around and some men in suits, some in tracksuits. I recognise one or two of the men as Jason’s teammates from my studying and someone who I am sure is their coach Leon DeSantos. He looks a little busy as he zips around the corridor holding a coffee cup.

“There’s your coach, and number thirteen, Xander Sage.” I briefly point to another. “There’s Robin Ryan-” I’m thrilled that I recognise and remember everyone. Jason leaves out a hearty laugh and takes my hand.

“You’ve been taking notes,” Jason observes. He sounds impressed.

I shoot him a proud smile and he winks at me. He looks fascinated by my efforts and my stomach has butterflies fluttering up a storm.

Jason walks me past the changing rooms where the Supernovas emblem is painted on the floor and a 3-D star is set on the oak double doors. My heart starts to race as I realise exactly where I am.

“Sid arrived last night; he should be around later if you wanna meet your favourite boy scout,” Jason teases me, watching me look around me in awe at everything.

“You won’t let that go, will you?” I nudge his side gently as we walk together. He’s got his arm around me protectively as we make our way down the hall. I stop and see a room labelled ‘wives room’ and peer up at Jason with an amused grin.

“All partners and wives of the team have a room for game night; it’s got a playroom for the kids too- here, I’ll show you.” He takes me to the door and opens it up to reveal a huge lounge area with a play area for kids. There's a ball pit, slide, playhouse, and toys all neatly stacked. The room is decorated in the Novas’ colours of black, gold and dark blue. There’s large couches for lounging and tables for catering. There’s TV monitors on opposite walls and home comforts like blankets draped across the backs of the couches.

“Wow, I never knew this existed,” I coo, looking around in awe.

“Well, you’ll go in here while I play when the regular season starts.” He leans in. Playing with my hair, he says softly, “You, Leah and Rory will all hang out here.”

“I’m allowed to go to your games?” I ask in disbelief. My heart is pounding at the thought of seeing him through the season. He’s thinking ahead and it's giving me butterflies.

“Only if you want to,” he replies sweetly, squeezing my shoulder.
