OLIVIA

I walk behind Kade obediently, even though he’s leading me to my punishment. I can hardly breathe, my chest hurts so much.

Kade stops at a door to the right of the stairs. His hand rests on the knob as he turns to me. “I understand why you did that, Olivia. I do. But you know it was bad, don’t you?”

My stomach churns as I nod my head and answer, “Yes, Master K.”

No, no it wasn’t. I had to. He grips my chin in his hand and forces me to look into his narrowed eyes. He looks pissed. My heart stops in my chest.

“Don’t lie to me, angel.” His words are hard and unforgiving. “I’m thankful it happened in that company. Had it been different…” he trails off as he opens the door and takes in a slow inhale. He doesn’t finish what he was saying, leaving me to imagine the worst, but instead walks down the steps.

I take a peek into the basement. It’s different down here. It’s not luxurious at all. The walls are cinderblocks that have been painted grey. The steps are wooden and also painted, although they’re black and have texture to them. My heart races as Kade descends the stairs. I look to my right and I know the front doors are close. They’re just down the hall. I could try to run. A very large part of me wants to.

I take an uneasy step toward the basement door and grip the handle. I could close the door and try to run.

My heart races and thuds in my chest.

“Don’t make me wait for you, angel.” Although Kade’s voice is low and laced with a threat, it eases something inside of me. I let go of the door and walk slowly down the wooden stairs. When I look to my left I can see the room for what it is. It’s mostly empty. The floor is painted black, and the walls are the same grey-painted cinders. There’s a drain in the center of the room, and nothing else. It’s empty.

My heart slows as I think of what this room could be used for. I nearly trip on the last stair as my heart tries to leap out of my throat.

Murder, death. The drain is for blood. That must be it. My hand grips the railing, but my feet are bolted to the ground.

“Olivia, calm down. It’s okay.” Kade puts his hands up and his eyes soften. “It’s alright, angel.” His voice is meant to calm me, but it’s not working.

He walks to me with even steps, and it takes everything in me not to move away from him. “I’m not going to hurt you.” He sounds so sincere. I lift my eyes to meet his, and he slowly drops his lips to mine. His hand cups the back of my head.

His comforting touch feels so welcoming. I lean into him and deepen the kiss. I'll be good. I can be good. My heart swells in my chest. I want to make this right.
