I padded silently over to Avery, while the necklace at my neck pulsed a soft glow, warming the space around my neck. I needed to protect him, to help heal him as Christian had helped me. This need was overwhelming and my wolf determined right then and there that she would do anything to give him that.

I jumped up against him and licked the side of his face. He clung to my fur as if he would fall down an abyss if I didn’t keep him up. I pressed against him, moving my nose over his face, smelling his grief for Mia and yet, his desire for me.

Avery. My wolf called to him. You are mine and I will protect you. His fingers tightened on my fur and he nodded his head. It’s okay to let go.

I didn’t have the powers that Christian had, I couldn’t just give him the memories that he needed to make him whole again but there was one thing I could do. I forced the change back over my body and this time it wasn’t as painful. This time I had a reason for shifting, far beyond the revenge that I so desperately wanted from Garrett. Now my reasons were to protect my pack, to give them what they needed.

I stood naked before Avery and pressed his hands against my breast, allowing him to touch me, to give in to his craving. He made a guttural noise as his hands roamed my body, his emotions leaking into mine as his need to give in to his desire overwhelmed him.

His hands on my body made my own need flare. I tugged his shirt over his head and touched his muscled chest, dragging him closer to me where I rested my hands on his hips. The necklace grew warmer and brighter, connecting the two of us. His eyes were closed and tears were tracking down his face again and I knew that the necklace was helping him release his pain. After a while, he opened his eyes and the pain in his eyes had been replaced with a softness.

I traced my finger over his cheek where the tears had fallen and he caught my hand and kissed the palm, staring into my eyes. I moved my hand to his arms and traced his tattoos, moving my fingers over the unicorn.

“What’s this for?” It had been a while since either one of us spoke and the sound of my voice was strange, even to my own ears.

“It’s for Mia. She loved unicorns.”

I brushed it lightly, caressing his skin. “It’s beautiful.” Then I moved my hands to his chest and pressed my palm against it. “You deserve to be happy. She would want that.”

A barrier between us broke and he wrapped his arms around me and enveloped my mouth with his. I responded to his kiss with my own passion, pulling him tight to me as my tongue explored his mouth. He yanked me up against him and, turning around, he pressed my back against the cliff wall, murmuring my name.
