Double Cross-Stitch/Cross-Stitch Star

A double cross-stitch is composed of a single, standard cross-stitch followed by an upright cross-stitch. This stitch can be used to make stars, fillings, and decorative borders or bands in a project.

Four-Sided Stitch

This stitch is used to create small squares side-by-side, which can be used for borders and bands in a counted-thread project.

Hem Stitch

The hem stitch is used to secure groups of thread in a counted-thread project. It’s used along openwork bands or along hems and fringed edges. To work the stitch, remove the required number of threads from the area. Then, thread a needle with either matching or contrasting thread and work the stitch around groups of two or more vertical threads in the open area. In this example the stitch is worked around groups of four vertical threads. Between each group, work a diagonal stitch starting two horizontal threads below to secure that group.
