Faubourg Marigny
Claiborne Mansion.
B&B/INN | One of the most beautiful places to stay in Faubourg Marigny, the Claiborne Mansion has enormous rooms with high ceilings, canopy beds, polished hardwood floors, and rich fabrics. The handsome 1859 mansion is on the fringe of the French Quarter and overlooks Washington Square Park. Although it’s spacious and elegant, the charming house still feels intimate, with a lush, dramatically lighted rear courtyard and pool. Celebrities regularly book it for the privacy, but families appreciate its suites with separate bedrooms. Think of the mansion as an authentic mid-19th-century house—with cable and air-conditioning. Pros: big rooms; very private and relaxing; within walking distance of several great restaurants and jazz clubs. Cons: limited parking on the premises. | Rooms from: $150 | 2111 Dauphine St., Faubourg Marigny | 504/949–7327 | www.claibornemansion.com | 2 rooms, 5 suites | Breakfast.
Lion’s Inn.
B&B/INN | With a swimming pool and hot tub in the private garden and elegant, Old South room decor, it’s easy to feel you’re in a traditional Louisiana mansion, though the many nightspots and restaurants on Frenchmen Street are nearby. The leisurely Continental breakfast in the courtyard is the perfect way to start the day, and the wine hour at dusk is relaxing and sociable. The owners are as hospitable as they come—they even provide bicycles to get around town. Pros: gracious owners; private courtyard; lovely neighborhood feel. Cons: a 10-minute walk to the Quarter or Frenchmen Street means that you may want to take a cab at night. | Rooms from: $125 | 2517 Chartres St., Faubourg Marigny | 800/485–6846, 504/945–2339 | www.lionsinn.com | 10 rooms | Breakfast.
