Temperance River Lower Loop*

Temperance River State Park • On Highway 61, 80 miles from Duluth • *Gentle Hikes name

• This short trail is long on delivery: beautiful canyons and waterfalls!

• Photo ops of Lake Superior and Temperance River abound here in this unique setting.

TRAILHEAD DIRECTIONS:

From Highway 61 at mile marker 80.2, pull into the paved parking area on either side of Temperance River or either side of the highway. The trailhead begins from the upper parking area on the lake side of highway.

TOTAL TRAIL LENGTH, SURFACE, & WIDTH:

0.1 mile; gravel and hard-packed dirt; average 3' wide. Moderate rocks, minimal roots.

INCLINES & ALERTS:

No inclines greater than 10°. Steep cliff with no guardrails.

TRAILHEAD FACILITIES & FEES:

No facilities at trailhead; however, there are flush toilets (seasonal) and vault toilets in campground. Vault toilets are available only in the picnic area on the lake side of highway. An annual or day-use state park permit is required to drive into the park; they are available at the park office. Otherwise, no permit is needed for the parking lots along either side of the highway.
