Robby rewound the recording so it started playing again at the beginning. After hearing the whole thing again, she shook her head as she took out the earbuds.

“He wanted to talk to us,” Michelle said, “and we just walked away.”

“I know,” Robby said. “But I guess I know what we’re doing tomorrow.”

“They open at 9:00 a.m.,” Michelle said through a mouthful of milk and Chocolate Action Pops. She looked at her phone while eating breakfast the next morning.

“Perfect,” Robby replied and took a swig of his orange juice.

It was just after 8:00 a.m. Robby was surprised either of them were able to fall asleep after his paranormal discovery. He figured if they left right after breakfast, they’d be able to get to the museum just before it opened. If they were lucky, they’d be the only ones there, besides the lady at the front desk.

“Think we can sneak away before Ty notices?” Michelle asked, looking around at the other members of the Warner clan who were already up.

The back screen door of the cabin squeaked open and in walked their youngest cousin. Ty’s hair was sticking up in wild tufts and he looked completely exhausted. He saw Michelle and Robby and raised a hand in a half-awake wave.

“Nope,” Robby whispered to Michelle.

Seeing there was no way around it, Robby brought Ty up to speed. Though he warned his cousin that the voice was going to sound creepy and could give him nightmares, Ty insisted on hearing it. When he was done his face looked like he’d just hopped out of the front seat of a roller coaster.

“No way,” he whispered.

“We’re going back to the museum,” Robby said. “We need to see if we can talk to John again. I don’t want you to feel like—”

“I’m coming too,” Ty interrupted.

“Tooty is going to be there,” Michelle teased.

“I don’t care,” Ty said. “I’d rather be creeped out and try to talk to some ghost than be stuck here all day.”

“Okay, then,” Robby nodded. “Eat up, kid. We leave in five minutes.”

The three of them rolled their classic bikes into the parking lot of the Hibbing Bus Museum just as the lady from the front desk was unlocking the door. She turned to watch them ride up to the sidewalk and smiled, squinting in the morning sun.

“Well, look who’s back,” she said and cackled out a laugh. “Back to see the rest of the museum?”

“There’s more?” Ty asked.

Robby wanted to elbow him in the ribs. He didn’t exactly want the lady to know they were planning on sitting inside the bus again to try and make contact with the ghost.

“Oh my, yes,” she said. “You kids missed all of the buses we have parked outside. There’s plenty more to see.”

I’m sure, Robby thought. But the stuff we want to see isn’t so easy to see.

They parked their rides under the museum’s front awning and followed the woman in. As she set her stuff down and got behind the desk, Robby produced three dollar bills.
