This trail is badly eroded and steep, but flowery.

Climb up a terraced gravel path, past a sign warning “Quiet, Trees at Work,” to a covered picnic area with a barbecue overlooking the sea. The gravel path ends at 0.3 mile, and you continue upward to the right on sometimes slippery rocks and tree roots. Enter a forest of bamboo, ti, and hala, picking your way carefully over tangled roots until the way flattens out a bit and a road joins the trail from the right (north). Here you arrive at a grassy flat with another covered picnic table. Just beyond, a sign informs you that this is the end of the trail, which seems obvious, but you could end up following a service road to nowhere. If you want to experience both “loops” follow the trail opposite to the one you came up on and shortly find yourself back at the Ha*na Highway. The vegetation is fairly dense and there are no far-reaching views for most of the way, but it’s a very pleasant and popular hike breaking up your long journey to Ha*na.
