Just because someone asks you how you are, that's not necessarily a mandate for you to tell them the entire history of your worries, challenges and setbacks. When you do, you're dredging up your pain or hurt once more. There's no need to be in denial, but neither is there a need to detail your issues at every opportunity.
Now it's over to you
So let's take some time out for you to think about the issues that concern you most. You can use the box below, download it from my website, www.theSUMOguy.com, or draw up your own. In completing it the aim is to help raise your awareness of whether your stress relates more to you current situation, anticipating a future event or challenge or focusing on something that is now in the past.
In completing the exercise, don't feel you have to come up with five worries. You may only have one or two particular concerns at the moment. However, you may want to reflect on the kind of issues that do cause you worry, anxiety and stress and decide which category they fall into. Life, however, is not always simple and straightforward, and it might be that certain issues you identify fall into more than one box. Either way it's still a helpful exercise in raising your awareness around your issues and it's possible that you might find some potential patterns emerging.
So start by writing down what you're worried, anxious or stressed about and then put a tick in the box or boxes marked situational, anticipatory and residual.
