One of my favorite definitions of patience comes from my friend Dorothy, who always said, “Patience is the ability to witness divine timing, and to do something creative in the meantime.”

When The Only Little Prayer You Need was released, for instance, I felt compelled to fill up every minute of my day forcing something to happen, and it never felt like enough.

In a morning meditation, I saw a rabbit digging up seeds that hadn't yet sprouted. The message? I was the rabbit. I was trying so hard to do something that I was actually interfering with the book's growth. “If you dig up the seeds before they have time to germinate,” my guides said, “they can't grow and spread.”

I backed off from my ego's need to be in control and waited. A few weeks later, one night when I least expected it, I got the green light. “Now,” my guides said, “it's time.”

Pay attention when you're pushing out of fear, and ask your guidance for a creative outlet instead.
