Chapter Twenty-one

I wake the following morning sweating my ass off. Arryn’s mane of thick black hair is thrown over my face, one leg and arm clinging to my body as her head rests on my shoulder. My fingers flex on her waist where I hold her to me, some deeper part of me easing at the way her body feels so perfect with mine. She breathes deeply and evenly, still sleeping soundly.

But I had some work to do this morning, and needed to get up to get it done before she wakes.

Carefully detangling myself from her, I tuck her back in and shower before I dress and head outside. The snow had finally stopped, the sky a clear blue this morning though the sun had some work to do to get rid of all this snow on the ground. I shovel around the cabin, clearing it away before I head back in and make coffee, setting myself up at the table to log in to the computer.

The message pops up as soon as it loads.

Everything is ready for you. The cameras are installed in three places, here is the link to access them. We will be on site as requested.

Perfect.

I’d had to pull some favors to get this done and since I couldn’t be on the mainland to do it, this was the best I could come up with.

It wouldn’t be exactly what she needs but it’s the best I can give her right now.

I had a couple of hours to go before it started so I do my daily check and search for the Ware’s, coming up empty once again and check the hit on Arryn. A new man had been assigned to the job since the last had failed to find her.

I had people searching for the Ware’s, but no one was coming up with any information, and there was a limit to what I could do from this cabin without all of my equipment. They were big names in society, how do they just disappear?

What exactly were they involved in and how the fuck did I miss it?

I call Torin who confirms the forecast is clear for the next few days, giving the cabin, and the tiny little town at the foot of the cliff a reprieve from the icy storm. He said he’d be heading to the mainland to grab supplies.

I couldn’t risk him going to Arryn’s house to gather her some belongings since anyone could be watching, and waiting, and all it would take would be someone following Torin back. He could handle himself, but it wasn’t a risk I was willing to take. It would jeopardize the safety this town and this cabin provided. But he could go shopping for her.

“I’m not clothes shopping for your girlfriend, Rett,” He grunts down the line.

“Just a few things,” I say, “Nothing fancy. Take Maya, I’m sure she wouldn’t mind.”

“And how am I supposed to explain to Maya why I’m buying women’s clothes?”

“Shit.” I grunt.

“Yeah, shit.”

“Torin, just some items, the girl has been living in my sweats and tees for days.
