Will and Jeanette were very clear about their intention around money. They wanted to return to the income they had before Will's change in jobs and before Jeanette's decrease in business. I suggested they buy nine Chinese coins since the number nine is a symbol of success and power. I instructed them to tie three of the coins together with a nine-inch red ribbon and place one set in the Wealth area of Jeanette's desk at work. Then I wanted them to tie three more coins together and place another set in the Wealth area of Will's desk. The remaining three coins would be placed singly under their welcome mat by their front door to set a theme of abundance and prosperity in their lives.

Because the money issues played out through their jobs, I also suggested a plant in their Career area to represent the growth they desired in their respective fields.

"Should we simply move?" they asked. "Wouldn't it be easier?" I discouraged their discussion around moving, for my concern was that they would take their issues with them. Instead, it felt important for them to stay and address whatever money challenges they were experiencing.

Jeanette and I had an opportunity to talk six months after our appointment. They had fixed the burners on the stove and had repaired the ceiling in their bedroom. They had hung a small, round crystal from the light in their entry. But it wasn't until they began clearing out a few things from the garage that Jeanette noticed an immediate shift in her real estate business. By the time the garage was done, she had surpassed her goals and was back on track. An interesting aside was that in clearing the old furniture out of the garage, she ran across her grandmother's china wrapped up in a box. Jeanette had forgotten it was there. Not wanting to keep it any longer, she had it appraised. The china was worth $5000. She eventually sold it to an antique dealer for $4950.

Will, however, struggled for quite some time in regard to his job. Whenever he had an interview set up, something would come up to prevent him from getting there. One day he was sick; one day the car overheated on the way to the interview, making him an hour-and-a- half late; and one day he just plain forgot. Meanwhile, Jeanette noticed how, after all their work, Will was starting to put things in the garage again. It seemed like self-sabotage was going on in regard to bringing money into his life.

Jeanette encouraged him to seek some counseling around this issue to see if that might help. Will discovered that, having grown up in a poor family, and watching his parents sacrifice and struggle, he had come to believe he didn't deserve an easier life. Rather than see an increased flow of money as an opportunity to help out his parents who were both living, he saw it as a discount to his upbringing. It was a
