As I expected, Lydiaâs risotto was fantastic. She served it with lemon butter chicken, and wine. A lot of wine. Neither of us could stand up from the couch without falling into the other by the time we were done gossiping. Driving home wasnât an option. I shuffled into Lydiaâs guest bedroom, promptly falling asleep.
Lydiaâs two-bedroom apartment had become a regular Friday night destination after work, especially if we had plans to hang out over the weekend. Once Lydia started seriously dating Zeke, we cut back on our sleepovers. Zeke felt a little guilty and tried setting me up with a few of his friends. Some of them were really handsome. But they were also my clients. Small town gossip often made for bad business. From early on, I had decided to prioritize the clinic over sex, over romance, and over love. Until my business stopped costing me money and started making me some.
The more I thought about it, the more I wondered if it felt so easy to say yes to Lucas because he wasnât living in Covington Falls anymore. âSee,â I whispered aloud. âIt wasnât just because his smile melts your panties.â
I inched my back up onto the pillows. Nursing my aching head, I flicked through the channels with the tv muted. and kept pressing the button on the remote. I gasped when Lucasâ beautiful face was gazing back at me.
His name and title as CEO of V-Sparks flashed on the screen for a few seconds then faded when the scene shifted from the studio to a shot of Lucas and the reporter striding around the enormous construction site almost a mile down the street from where I was in bed. According to the graphic in the top right corner of the tv screen, the interview aired months ago, a local broadcast I missed over the summer.
Lucasâ lips silently moved as he spoke to the other man. I gaped at him with a mix of lust and way too much hope. What if we hit it off tonight?
The tech CEO had an energy about him. He seemed very down to earth in that Covington Falls way. It was impossible not to admire the success of the life he and his brother made. He gestured widely with his hands, his green eyes alight with excitement. It was clear he was passionate about the project. His enthusiasm so infectious, I felt drawn to him.
I let out a thin breath, conscious of the rise in my heartbeat and the tiny pulses occurring between my thighs. Biting my lip, I thought about reaching my hand under the blanket and slipping my fingers beneath the stretchy waistband in my pajama shorts. Masturbating to TV Lucas might wipe the fog from my head, I reasoned.
Yeah, playing with myself until those waves of pleasure overwhelmed me might just do the trick.
The idea got as far as letting go of the remote. Lydia knocked and barged into the room before I got any further. âCoffeeâs a-brewing,â she said with all the Christmas cheer anyone would muster.
