Kristen Stewart’s hair was “mostly her own hair,” key hairstylist Thom McIntyre said. Although the hair was styled much as it was in Twilight, Bella’s varied hairstyles reflect the emotional range of the story, beginning with the happy, optimistic atmosphere that opens the film. “In the first part of the movie her hair is sort of fairy-tale looking, curly and girlish,” McIntyre explained. “Then she goes through degrees of it being unkempt after Edward leaves her. As she comes out of her depression, her hair becomes relaxed and carefree, more of a soft wave.”

In addition to Taylor Lautner’s personal bulking up regimen, key makeup artist Norma Hill-Patton helped add to the illusion of the massive physical growth Jacob undergoes as he becomes a member of the “wolf pack.” “For Jacob, the illusion I wanted to create was that suddenly, in a couple of days of story time, he goes from a sweet, innocent young boy to this hunk of a man. I first made Taylor look very fresh, young, and innocent, giving him very smooth skin, with no circles under his eyes, and added a bloom of youth on his cheeks.

“But then, as he changes, he becomes more bronzed and tanned, the look of his face more sculpted. The natural shadow that everyone has I left under his eyes, and I shadowed his nose and cheekbones, his jawline, gave him a slight beard shadow. I defined his eyeline, making them smudgy and smoky-looking, used mascara on his eyebrows to make them black and spiky. We did that to the entire wolf pack, actually. The boys had worked hard on beefing up their bodies and we helped enhance that.”
