“WE CAN ALWAYS HEAD BACK, YOU KNOW?” Ryan’s words hung in the air.

David and Ryan found themselves at a Starbucks in Bond Street, sipping on coffee and munching on their breakfast. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and the city’s lively bustle outside the café’s windows created a cosy atmosphere.

David shifted in his seat, his gaze wandering to the vibrant streets of Central London.

Maybe Ryan’s got a point, perhaps going back home would be the safer bet.

He couldn’t fault his mate’s concern, even if he teased him about it from time to time.

With a playful roll of his eyes, David replied, “Ryan, you’re like a big brother on protection duty. I appreciate it, but I can’t keep dodging my past. It’s time to tackle it head-on.”

“Yeah, I get it,” Ryan admitted softly.

David valued Ryan’s unwavering support. It had been the backbone of their friendship, and it meant the world to him.

“Absolutely. We’re in this together,” David said.

During their chat, David couldn’t help but notice a change in Ryan’s attitude. There was this extra layer of tenderness and affection, both in the way he spoke and in the little touches they shared. While David sometimes put on a show of being annoyed, he secretly welcomed this newfound closeness.

As they chatted and had a laugh, David couldn’t help but mull over how their relationship was changing. The trust and connection they’d built had turned their friendship into something deeper. David casually rocked the hoodie Ryan had given him. It had quickly become a favorite, and David couldn’t imagine parting with it. Luckily, he had a feeling Ryan didn’t mind at all.

Their journey to Embankment brought a mix of excitement and nerves for David. When Ryan suggested taking the tube, David simply agreed. The short tube ride, just twenty minutes, felt like a journey into the unknown.

Emerging from the tube station, they were engulfed by the vibrant atmosphere of Embankment. The city’s lively energy flowed through the streets, a stark contrast to their usual low-key outings.

Their first stop was the Stairway to Heaven, a bar where Ryan had mentioned their friend Layla worked as a bartender.

David couldn’t help but wonder what Layla would be like. Ryan had shared that she was one of his closest friends, but not remembering someone who played such a big part in his life was a frustrating aspect of his amnesia.

Entering the bar, David was taken aback by what happened next. A formidable woman, who could only be Layla, enveloped him in a bear hug. For a moment, David hesitated before returning the hug, surprised by the warmth and strength of her embrace.

Ryan, ever the friendly one, grinned at Layla. “Layla, got a
