I can't bear the thought of going back home right now. But it's three in the afternoon, and something in my gut tells me Taylor must be home by now. I can't take all his probing and questions; I know he will have them. It's like when someone asks if you're okay, and then you cry harder. Taylor has seen me in some unbearable circumstances, but I can't take that right now, especially with everything going on. It's been a long time since I've been out of work at three p.m. on a weekday, but as I walk out of the bookstore, I notice a small plaza across the street. It's something I didn't see before. I have yet to explore the area much, so I decide to treat myself to it.

I can't believe that I've lost my job. After everything I've done, Ms. Dottie cut me off quickly, not wanting anything to do with me, despite being integral in helping her shop grow. Maybe she's decided she can figure out all of my marketing plans since I've left them on her computer, or perhaps she needs to find a way to afford to pay for my labor. Either way, it was an irrepressible and disrespectful way to let me go. I walk into the building, it’s an interesting place. It is a mixture of a coffee shop/deli/bar and hearing the jingle of the bell above me prompts a few cashiers to greet me and offer help. Looking in the back corner of the place I see a stage is set up for some kind of entertainment. Bringing my attention back to the cashiers I figure I'm going to need one of their most robust coffees and something to help me forget how this move is everything I knew it wasn't going to be. Luckily the line is fast, and the service is friendly, and after getting my coffee and a pastry that I know I shouldn't have, I slide into a small booth in the corner. I feel someone else sitting down, I look up and see brown eyes staring at me.

A girl with brown hair slides into my booth. It's the one who left Taylor's house practically half-naked the first day I arrived. "Oh, I can move," I say, but I say it in a way to clearly indicate I want to be alone. I'm not in the mood if she's here to get into a catfight about Taylor. He and I are not together, and Taylor can fuck whoever he wants. As soon as I acknowledge those thoughts, a twinge of jealousy overcomes me. I really hope not. As if reading my mind, the girl looks me over with a slight smirk. She tangles her fingers through her brown hair, and I examine her appearance. She didn't look put together the day I saw her at Taylor's house, but today she's not looking much better. Her pink fingernail polish is chipped, and her hair looks like it hasn't been washed in a few days.
