Group Acceptance: In order to build Affective Commitment with the organization, a prospect generally seeks to feel welcomed by the group. This does not require “love bombing” or lots of hugs with strangers; in fact such tactics can be counterproductive. When engaging with the membership as a group, there needs to be a period at which new participants and guests can be welcomed into the community. This may take the form of a specific point in the agenda of the activity to have everyone introduce themselves and shake hands with the people next to them, or it may go to the other extreme, with a welcome reception for first time participants and the leadership. Traditional icebreakers and other means of group formation processes can be found in many books and articles. Finding one or more that are appropriate to both your culture and the activity they are used in should not be a difficult challenge.
