Chapter 18

Kassie

Dante warned me that there were other supernaturals, but we never could have guessed that Nick would be involved with vampires. My mother and Tonya had been tranquilized. I tried to fight back, but I couldn’t keep up with all his movements, and he didn’t fight fair either.

A dart went into my back, and I start to collapse. He picks me up and throws me over his shoulder. I sag like a bag of potatoes, fighting is futile as the drugs kick in. The last image I see is my mother and Tonya laying on the ground. My mother has her eyes open and is trying to reach me, but ultimately, she passes out. I look up in the surrounding trees and see Dante with my father rushing forward, but it’s too late.

Ryker takes off with me at a speed that can only be described as a blur. I faint shortly after, leaving behind everyone I hold dear.

12 hours later…

“Wakey, wakey, princess.” Ryker bangs on some bars. Oh great, I’m behind bars again.

My wolf fully alert, responds quickly. They fear you. That is why they want to keep you weak. If we were in top condition, we’re a force to be reckoned with, even for a vampire.

Then why didn’t Dante reach me in time? My heart hurts, but I know he probably doesn’t know all this yet.

I try to stay still, pretending to be knocked out as I ask her how she knows this information.

I just do, and that vampire just might too. He looks familiar. I try to understand how in the world he could look familiar to her when he doesn’t to me. This makes no sense.

A wolf spirit is different than the human spirit. She quietly replies.

“I said wake up princess, your grand debut has arrived.” I roll over to face him groaning. I hate being in these silver-encased cells.

“What do you want vampire?” I ask.

“Oh, did we wake up cranky? Don’t like the accommodations? Also, though you are correct in calling me vampire, it’s Ryker.” He sneers at me.

“You try waking up from being tranquilized, in a cell, with a captor like you and see how you feel.” I have no time for his jeering. It finally registers he said debut. “What debut are you talking about?”

“The debut? It’s just you’re the first of your kind in a thousand years. You have piqued my interests and a lot of them. You’re a rare prize and any pack would love to have their hands on you.” His grin gets wider. Another psycho, just what I needed.

“Let me guess, you want to sell me off to some pack. Well, I got news for you buddy, the mating bite with Nick didn’t work. He didn’t get the exchange of power from it as he hoped. All he succeeded in was messing up my neck. So, good luck trying to pitch that idea to a pack.” I was eye to eye with Ryker, regardless of the bars. I was fighting with everything I had just to stand and stay standing.
