“There’s quite a lot we touched on last week. Where would you like to begin?” Andre asked several days later.

“I spoke to my brother before the last session, too. Didn’t mention that because we’d focused on my teammate and Saheeli coming over.”

“Your twin or the one you play with?” Andre tilted his head.

“Still haven’t reached out to Mo, but Julian kind of…”—I teetered my head from side to side—“discovered Saheeli in my room.”

“That was definitely not mentioned previously.” Andre’s eyes grew a fraction of an inch before his neutral face returned. “I bet that was a shock to all.”

“Probably Saheeli the most, but I haven’t had a real chance to talk to her since.” I shrugged. “I’ve seen her around and we spoke a little when she was in the locker room the other day, but it’s like she’s avoiding me.”

“Is she avoiding you, or is it that now that you have mostly resolved your anger toward one another, and you’ve acknowledged your feelings, do the same actions seem different?”

I pursed my lips and glanced away. “I mean, I guess I haven’t tried all that hard to have a conversation with her.”

“So, let’s pick up where we left off last week, then. You and Saheeli spoke and it was a ‘real heartfelt understanding,’” He glanced from his notepad to me, lifting a brow. “Paired with her behaviors since then, can you say a little bit more about what that means?”

I sighed and stretched, trying to dive deeper than a surface-level response.

“It was both shocking that we were able to chat so openly and revealing that we were both legitimately upset by the actions of the other but wouldn’t let it go no matter how many times we attempted to speak after that.” I leaned back in my seat. “To be honest, the arguing always made me like her more because even though it was shit to piss me off, her passion for what she stood for was always there.”

“What happened after you spoke?”

I flashed back to the several directions our conversation had taken us. “Well, we talked about the inciting incident from high school, but also why she’d acted the way she had and why I’d gotten defensive.”

“Right, you said that last time.” Andre eyed me, seemingly watching my body language very closely. “Tell me what came after, if you’re comfortable discussing that part.”

I shifted my gaze toward the ground. “After we both apologized for the way we’d behaved and I suggested we continue our… sexual relationship, she almost left but then we talked more and decided one last time was something we should have.”

“I have two questions.”

“I’m surprised it’s only two,” I muttered before returning my attention to him. “What’s the first one?”

“You paused at ‘sexual relationship.’ Is that what you considered it?”

“I used to call it hate fucking.”

He laughed and shook his head. “I’m sure that’s an accurate description. What do you call it now?”

“Just sex.”

“Is it just sex for you, though?”

My heart sank because it wasn’t but
