Fifteen

I can credit; prayer and fasting over the last two days for aligning my frame of mind with my Spirit, and with God. I needed some clarity after what happened with Phoebe when I told her to get out of the guest cabin.

My blood boiled the second she said that I was acting foolish. That told me that she has no respect for my decision. When she didn’t understand what I did, by the Will of God, she lashed out instead of listening and trusting in the Word, which says,

“Forgive others, and I will forgive you.” (KJV)

I love Phoebe with all my heart, but there has to be a precedence set. I am a man of God first. Any and everything God calls me to do, even though I may want to run from it, I understand now that I must do it. I’ve tried to live my life my way, and that didn’t turn out fruitful. That’s why my life has come back around full circle, and I think Ranger has a part to play in it again.

I had to learn to do as God wants first. If Phoebe doesn’t understand that, she is not the woman of God she led me to believe she is. She has to understand why I have chosen to forgive. She is not looking at this situation with Spiritual eyes.

We haven’t talked on the phone since that night, two days ago. I have texted her, and she promptly replied with vague responses. I know that she is safe because whichever employee is working in the office with her that day tells me her whereabouts when I call the reception desk to check on Phoebe.

I pull over off the road and into a long drive that leads to Ranger’s cabin. There is a total of twelve cabins, so far, that the Sawyer Ranch rents to employees who want to live on ranch property.

Each cabin has one bedroom—or two or three bedrooms for employees with a family. This was the first improvement Quint implemented when he took over the sole operations of the ranch, and it has more than paid off.

Not only is Quint helping employees in need of housing, but by renting out to them, he’s also tripling his revenue and his donation status in the community.

“What’s up, brother?” Ranger asks. As I’m getting out of my truck, he’s coming around from the side of the cabin with an electric drill in his hand.

“What’s up?” I respond, walking up to the other side of the porch steps where he is drilling a post into the railing.

He waits until he’s done before he says, “Just reposting the banister posts.” He gestures toward the porch. “What brings you around?” He sits down on the top step.

Ranger’s cabin is closest to the main ranch, about five miles away, and hasn’t been renovated yet. This cabin was used as one of a half dozen hunting cabins used by Quint’s grandpappy and pa.

I didn’t so much come to see Ranger but to do a check-in and a check-up.
