âYou know I hate to agree with Sorayaâs crazy ideas, but weâre on a bit of a time crunch here,â Tivali said.
âIn what sense?â Bygul asked.
âIn the sense that we do have other cats to place, and other humans to matematch. Not to mention in five days, Tessa goes back to work, at which point she and Wade will be on opposite schedules.â
Yeah, that was going to be a bit of a challenge.
âSo, if we want them to spend any time together, we need it to happen this week.â
âIâve got it all under control,â Bygul said. âSeveral things are already in the works.â
âLike what?â Tivali demanded. âThe vet visit tomorrow? Just because you somehow managed to get Tessa to call the same vet Isana Meier recommended to her brother and cousins doesnât mean theyâll actually run into each other there.â
âI have to agree,â Muezza said, âas the chances of that happening are pretty slim.â
âOh, ye of little faith,â Bygul said. âAre we cats of the goddesses or what? A little bit of magical manipulation and miracles can and do happen.â
âPersonally I vote for Santa Kitty,â Soraya said. âHeâs the miracle we need.â
Bygul let out a huff of exasperation. âIâve got everything under control. Thereâs absolutely no need to call in Kitty Claus.â
âWhy do you hate him so much?â Soraya demanded.
âWhy? Because heâs an arrogant, pompous ass.
âThe name says it all. His name is Kitty. Not Santa Kitty, just Kitty. Thatâs his name. Thatâs what Mrs. Claus named him. Kitty Claus. But do you think thatâs enough for him?
âOf course not! He insists that just because heâs the cat of the Clauses, he should also be known as Santa Kitty. Give me a break!
âYou donât see me walking around calling myself Freyja Bygul, do you? Of course not. That would be ridiculous!
âBut heâs so arrogant he thinks just because he gets to travel in a sleigh with the Big Man once a year, heâs an actual Santa himself. Itâs outrageous.â
âSo,â Tivali dragged out the word. âWhat youâre basically saying is that you canât stand him because heâs a lot like you.â
âWhat? No!â
âYou do like to remind people that youâre the best matchmaker at PPM,â Muezza pointed out.
âI am the best!â
Soraya sniffed. âAnd Santa Kitty is Santaâs kitty, soâ¦â
Bygul growled in annoyance. âFine. Whatever. Call him in if you must, but Iâm telling you now, that crazy cat will just make things worse.â
âYay!â Soraya leapt up and popped out of the room, presumably to track down the idiot Claus.
âEh, I wouldnât worry about Kitty that much,â Muezza said. âSoraya likes to flirt with him and he likes flirting back, so chances are heâll spend most of his time hanging out with her, rather than interfering with our matches.â
âThen whatâs the point of even bothering?â Bygul demanded.
âBecause,â Tivali said, âhe specializes in chaos and as much as we hate to admit it, chaos is typically the turning point for every match.â
Bygul growled. He hated that she was right. âYou do realize heâll annoy all of us with his arrogant, condescending attitude.
