Chapter Sixteen

We all returned to the embassy, Nilira and Olivia included. Bee and Dee were back in red resin, but they kept possession of Pegsie. They brought us to one of the sitting rooms, had us kneel, and then told us, “You each belong to all of the competitors.”

Corale told me, “Fi-la, you belong to me, but you will obey the others here as if their orders are mine. You will behave as if you belong to each of them. And as Lady Olivia owns Bee and Dee, you will also obey her.”

Each owner said the same thing to her new slave. I was filled with pleasure, and I knelt in front of Corale, entirely happy.

There was dinner. The slaves served and then knelt with our heads in our owners’ laps. I loved doing that, and Corale fed me from her fingers. Then, under Mendari’s watchful gaze, the slaves saw to cleanup before meeting our owners in the ballroom. Once we were settled, the remaining embassy staff that hadn’t been involved in the event this afternoon challenged each other. They held simple challenges, and a half hour later, nearly everyone present was either a slave or had a slave.

There was a lot of red resin on display.

Allium was the holdout. She offered a good night. Olivia spoke quietly with Bee and Dee. And then the two left.

Corale announced, “We’re going to play a new game.” It was actually a series of small games, all within a larger game. The rules for the mini-games varied dramatically. They had a long, long list of games, most of them silly, some of them much funnier than others. I’ll use my first game as an example.

I was to be third. The winning owner of the previous game picked a slave to compete, and she chose Esh. And then they used a set of dice to randomly pick from the possible games. Nilira rolled out the dice, and then Renalla, who was managing the list, said, “That’s called Tear Repair, and I think we have a ringer as our first contestant. Nilira, who is your slave going to compete against?”

Esh whispered to her. Nilira laughed and said, “Fi-la.”

They gave each of us a small sewing kit and a blouse with a tear in one seam. We were to repair the tear.

As games go, this wasn’t one of the silly ones. It was really quite simple. Nilira called out, “Ready, go!”

I knew if I tried working too fast, I’d do a poor job, so I approached it like I would have any job in my workshop. I was careful and methodical. Esh didn’t work any differently, but she was an expert seamstress, and I was not. She had a needle and thread selected and threaded while I was still trying to decide which needle was best. I believe she had her tear repaired before I made my first stitch, and when I was about halfway done, I looked over, and she was examining the blouse, repairing anything else she found.
