HEALING ACTION STEPS

1. Make a list of all the negative qualities in your partner that you find irritating, painful, or offensive. Include those traits that anger, enrage, or disgust you.

2. Make a list of all the negative qualities in your parents or primary caregiver that you find similarly upsetting.

3. Close your eyes and ask yourself, Where in my life am I displaying this quality? It will probably look different in your life than it does in the life of other people. If you can’t find any place in your life where you are displaying this trait, go back into your past and remember a time when you expressed it.

4. Next to each of the negative qualities you listed, identify your judgments about each one. For example, if you wrote that your husband is a liar, your judgments about that quality might look something like this:
