Chapter Fifteen

“HOW’S IT GOING?”

Barclay glanced up from the ground vehicle they had bought an hour earlier, using some of Saren’s line of credit. Removing the screwdriver from his mouth, he grinned. “Fine, Commander,” he replied. “It’s not a bad little machine, and with just a bit of tweaking I’ve managed to increase its efficiency and speed by about twenty percent. Barclay shrugged. “Hard to say exactly,” he answered. “Another hour, if we don’t run into any problems. I think I’ve got the local science down pat, but it’s kind of hard constantly having to think down to their level.”

Riker patted him on the shoulder. “Don’t worry, Reg. I have faith in you. I’m sure you can sink to any level necessary.”

“Thank you, Commander,” Barclay replied uncertainly. “I think . . .”
