Conclusion

As a result of the discovery of the 6th Army’s Wochenmeldung über Panzer und Sturmgeschülzlage Stand for 1 August 1943 we are in a position to adjust the total number of AFV losses that II SS Panzer Korps sustained during Operation Citadel and its immediate aftermath (5–20 July 1943, see Table 65). The final number of AFVs lost during the operation is extremely low at just 41 AFVs (42 if we include 1 Leibstandarte Panzer I Bef). This means that of the original 547 AFVs (not including Panzer Is or Panzer IIs) which embarked on the offensive on 5 July with II SS Panzer Korps, 506 AFVs (93 per cent) were still in II SS Panzer Korps divisional inventories on 20 July (four new Sf Paks were received after 10 July).1
