As settlement of the Western Reserve proceeded, immigrants no longer had to face the hardships that Joseph Badgerâs family had encountered. But removal even in the company of neighbors, who had taken the precaution of forming themselves into a church before leaving New England, evoked many anxieties. Though delivered to a Massachusetts company of emigrants, Bakerâs sermon was published in Connecticut.
