Emotionally Acknowledge
After mentally acknowledging a fun moment, the next step is to acknowledge it emotionally. The simplest way to do this is via a question such as, âHow did that make me feel?â Then, take a moment to respond to it.
âHow did it make me feel to go for that brief jog around the block?â
âHow did it make me feel to water the radishes in my garden?â
âHow did it make me feel to take a break and play video games for a bit?â
âHow did it make me feel to enjoy a tasty beverage?â
This type of question helps your mind transition from the intellectual side â just paying attention â to the emotional body chemistry thatâs occurring in the moment. When good things happen, good stuff is going on inside your body. Youâre built that way: to produce positive chemical reactions internally when something positive happens to you. The more you take the time to assess it, the more aware you become of what your body is doing.
And the more aware you become of the good feelings youâre experiencing, the more youâll want to have those feelings occur in the future. What we focus on becomes more meaningful and repeatable.
