WHICH PARK TO SEE FIRST?
THIS QUESTION IS LESS ACADEMIC than it appears, especially if your party includes children or teenagers. Children who see the Magic Kingdom first expect the same type of entertainment at the other parks. At Epcot, they’re often disappointed by the educational orientation and serious tone (many adults react the same way). Disney’s Hollywood Studios offers some wild action along with family-friendly stage shows and attractions. Children may not find Animal Kingdom as exciting as the Magic Kingdom or DHS, because animals can’t be programmed to entertain on cue.
First-time visitors should see Epcot first; you’ll be able to enjoy it without having been preconditioned to think of Disney entertainment as solely fantasy or adventure.
See Disney’s Animal Kingdom second. Like Epcot, it’s educational, but its live animals provide a change of pace.
Next, see Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which helps all ages transition from the educational Epcot and Animal Kingdom to the fanciful Magic Kingdom. Also, because DHS is smaller, you won’t walk as much or stay as long. Save the Magic Kingdom for last.
If you can’t postpone the Magic Kingdom without a major revolt, at least see Epcot first. Adult orientation notwithstanding, there’s lots that children 7 and up will love, younger children not so much. Be sure to participate in the Agent P and Kidcot programs, described in Part Eight. They’ll be the highlight of your child’s day. If seeing Mickey is your kid’s top priority, be advised that you can see him in each of the major theme parks. Any cast member can tell you where to find him.
