The Hot Springs
WellSprings is still known to many locals by its old name of Jackson Hot Springs. The name was officially changed in 1995 by its two new owners: Gerry Lehrburger, a physician who specializes in “integrative medicines,” and Bruce Blackwell, an acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist. Lehrburger and Blackwell have been slowly transforming the resort into a nonprofit health and research center.
History
WellSprings is one of the few hot springs resorts remaining from the heyday of Ashland's mineral springs era. In 1886 a visitor to Ashland described the importance of mineral water to the area:
