No more words were exchanged until they reached the Thakvar mansion.
Just as they drove towards the mansionâs entrance, Shivay Thakvar turned towards her. âDonât mention anything about the oasis attack to my father.â
Shocked and unable to still speak, she nodded.
As soon as the SUV stopped, the Thakvar household waited outside the mansion to receive them. She got down, and as she waited, he joined her. She was shocked when he held her close as Malathi and the other women performed the welcome ritual.
Ishani slowly realized that his arm wrapped around her waist, concealing his injured knuckles behind her veil and slid his other hand inside his pants pockets. He led her up the mansion stairs where Mihir Thakvar was waiting with a smile.
âIâm so glad you were able to visit your mother, Ishani.â
âThank you, Papa,â she said softly.
âI hope she is doing well.â
She nodded. âYes, she is doing fine now.â
Her father-in-law looked at them both. âYou must be tired after the journey. Iâve asked the ritual feast to be moved to tomorrow.â
She felt grateful for his consideration.
He looked at Shivay Thakvar. âIâll talk to you later, son.â
Shivay Thakvar nodded, and then he led her up the stairs towards their bedroom suite.
The moment they stepped inside and the door was shut, he pulled away from her. She felt guilty and hurt by his angry coldness.
âS-Shivay⦠Iâm sorry,â she said. She didnât know what else to say. âI know I should have helped more when the attack happened. I tried to call the security, butââ
âEnough,â he snapped. He watched her with a dark look. âYou know damn well I am referring to your role in the attack.â
Shock ripped through her.
âW-what?â She felt too stunned.
Never did it cross her mind he suspected her of being involved in the attack.
âWe were attacked by the Kabalis,â she said. âThey are not my clansmen.â
He didnât say anything.
âPlease believe me,â she said desperately. âYou can ask the security head as well. Kabali clan members wear black clothes and cover their faces with ash. They also use the three-clawed weapon that is unique to them. It was the Kabalis who attacked us!â
His expression remained dark even as she explained.
He looked at her. âI guess I must credit you for the elaborate planning,â he said. âClaiming that your mother fell sick. And then, having the priests tell me it was a Gujjar tradition to visit the oasis.â
Her heart jerked in shock at his words.
âWhat? My mother was really sick when I received the call from her nurse! And I didnât know that the priests told you about the oasis. I didnât even know we were going there until we reached the place!â
She felt shocked and hurt by his accusations. Fighting back tears, she stepped closer to him and placed her hand on his chest.
âPlease believe me, Shivay!â she begged.
His jaw clenched at her touch. And then his eyes flashed darkly while his mouth twisted into a cruel smile. âAre you going to let me touch you again to distract and convince me? Even if you allow me to fuck you, I wonât believe you.
