Remi

Kyou eyed Ivan with judgey Mcjudgey eyes as soon as the vampires left. “Ivan. I must ask, do you have any other skeletons in your closet you’ve forgotten to share?”

“You mean literally or figuratively?

“Honestly, the fact that I even have to specify…”

Ivan did his best to look innocent. He was very bad at it.

Personally, Remi didn’t see the issue. Magic and supernatural creatures were real. She thought it was super cool and was happy to have that confirmed. Ever since she was ten and helped with the museum heist, she’d kinda suspected it. Some of the guys around the museum moved wicked fast compared to what a human should be capable of. The way they were treating the things in the museum, too, like it was all personal belongings, had been telling. Those things were over a hundred years old.

Apparently it was a shock to her fathers and uncles, though. Maybe she should have said something back then?

Oops.

“It doesn’t matter much to you anyway, da?” Ivan was still on his innocent shtick. “It’s not like you voluntarily leave the house anyway.”

Kyou gave him a repressive look, not moved by this logic. “While it is true that my favorite outdoor activity is getting my packages at the door and bringing them inside, that logic does not jive.”

“Njet?”

“Njet, Ivan.”

Ivan pulled on Sad Face. “But they’re really nice.”

“How do you even make your face do that, seriously.”

Remi hid a snicker behind one hand. Watching Ivan tweak Kyou’s nose was the best cheap entertainment around.

One of her fathers, at least, realized the obvious. Ari pointed a finger at her accusingly. “You were not surprised by this. You’d figured it out, hadn’t you?”

“Eh…more like I suspected it? I saw some things seven years ago that made me think they weren’t human.” Remi splayed her hands out in a shrug. She hadn’t had proof, just theories. Sue her.

Ari passed a hand over his face, looking tired. “I’m learning things.”

“I’m learning less,” Kyou growled, looking fed up. “Both of you, really? I don’t blame Remi so much—she was a kid at the time; of course she wasn’t sure what to say—but Ivan you should have known better.”

Ivan did an exaggerated double-take, clutching both hands to his heart in horror. “You want me to be responsible one?”

To the air, Carter muttered, “We’re all going to die.”

“Death is calling~” Remi chimed in, snickering.

Kyou was on the losing end of this argument but kept trying anyway. “You have three kids. Yes, I expect you to be responsible.”

“Njet, Aiden is responsible parent. I am fun parent. We already divided this up.”

Carter shook his head, amused. “It’s a good thing that man loves you to pieces. Otherwise, he would have strangled you by now.”

“I rely on his love for me,” Ivan agreed with a nod. “I survive day to day that way. Now, you all good with a change in worldview? Da? Horosho, moving on—”

Ari threw up a hand. “I am not able to roll with it that easily. Excuse you.”

“Roll, we have no time,” Carter dictated, then slurped at his coffee.
