Local artist Betty Liles painted this beautiful interpretation of the Wynne Home Arts Center as it appears today. Her work was featured at the Wynne Home in 2011.

Published by C.A. Randolph, this photographic postcard features the Masonic temple in downtown Huntsville. Although the temple did not open until 1908, the Masons had long been active in Walker County. Leading members of the local community, including Sam Houston, Henderson Yoakum, and Alexander MacDonald, were Masons.

This photograph shows a crowd gathered for the funeral of Rev. Thomas Aloysius Bily (1859–1921) at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Waverly. The church had its origins in the post–Civil War era, when Polish immigrants migrated to the area to work in agricultural production. Rev. Felix Orzechowski established St. Joseph’s in 1869, and it has served the local community for almost 150 years.
