Here was an alphabet that was simple to read and worked for different languages, not just French. A person could write in German, English, Italian, and many more! Louis was excited. He had found a way for the blind to read and write with ease. He went to Dr. Pignier with his stylus, slate, and paper. He asked him to take out a book and read a part out loud. As Dr. Pignier read, Louis pushed his dots into the paper from right to left. At one point Louis asked Dr. Pignier to read faster. When Dr. Pignier reached the end of a paragraph, he stopped. Right away Louis turned over his paper and moved his finger over the raised dots from left to right. He read back every word that Dr. Pignier had spoken. Dr. Pignier was amazed and proud.
